WE ALL WE GOT!

I've finally emerged from the shock and darkness of trump’s re-election — what many saw as a critical vote for our country’s future. But this isn’t just a bad dream; the fallout is real, with Trump’s vow to reignite trade wars already throwing supply chains into disarray as businesses rush to import goods.

In times like these, I’ve found solace in community. After the election, I joined Sree Sreenivasan’s #Election2024 coverage with powerhouse voices like Shawna Vercher, aka “The Political Fixer,” and Mary C. Curtis. Hearing their perspectives on the implications of another Trump term—and their fearless commitment to speaking truth—was grounding, to say the least.

Regardless of your political stance or identity, it’s clear that many are hurting—Democrats, Republicans, independents, undocumented families, Black women, women in general, Muslim-Americans, trans people, rural blue-collar workers, and so many others.

Community Anchors Us

These are the times when community holds us steady. Even with frustration around exit polls and endless debates on intersectionality, BlindianProject remains committed to uniting the Global majority. Let’s be clear: no one sitting in the Oval Office is going to save US. We are all we’ve got.

So, if you’re grieving right now, remember to take care of yourself. Here are a few small ways to stay grounded:

  • Log Off: Give yourself a break from the constant news cycle.

  • Sanitize Your Socials: Follow accounts that inspire you, unfollow those that drain you.

  • Tell Your People You Love Them: Never underestimate the power of human connection.

  • Build With Like-Minded People: Find and strengthen networks that prioritize justice and equality.

  • Recharge: Rest is a revolutionary act.

Our Ways of Staying Rooted

We’ve been here before, and many of us know the dust never truly settles. As we face the next four years, I’d love to hear how you’re staying grounded and resilient. Each newsletter, we’ll feature voices from our community.

Reclaim your joy with Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts, author of 23 books including the recently released The Black Joy Playbook: 30 Days of Intentionally Reclaiming Your Delight. Featured on Good Morning America, the Playbook is a follow-up to her NAACP Image Award winning Black Joy: Stories of Resistance, Resilience, and Restoration.“We have an ancestral mandate to hold—not just the pain and trauma of our experiences as Black people—but to hold the joy and love and peace that is also ours,” says Lewis-Giggetts.Her hope for listeners of this podcast is that by the end of this episode you will know that:

  1. There is healing power in intentionally unearthing and pursuing joy—particularly in the midst of grief and chaos.

  2. Sometimes joy requires us to be still. (Are you willing to sit with yourself and identify your unique needs?)

  3. Black joy is unique and necessary.

“Joy is a weapon, not only for resistance, but also a means for healing—a powerful tool that is all-encompassing and necessary. The Black Joy Playbook helps you mine your memories to discover what joy looks and feels like to you and then guides you to re-create it in your present-day life,” says Lewis-Giggets.
