Doubling-Down On Its Solidarity-Building Mission Amongst Black x Brown Communities, The #BlindianProject Adds South Asians for Black Lives to Its Portfolio.
Peterborough, U.K. - Today, the #BlindianProject, a social impact media platform and global community at the intersection of Black x Brown culture, announced the addition of South Asians for Black Lives, a U.S platform aimed at dismantling anti-Blackness within the South Asian community. The expansion nearly triples the size of the #BlindianProject's online community across its prominent locations; London, NYC, Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
"Black x Brown solidarity is fundamental to dismantling white supremacy and other unjust institutionalized mechanisms. The #BlindianProject actively celebrates the intersection of our cultures. South Asians for Black Lives has done an excellent job creating a community ready to engage in this work. We eagerly look forward to working with the community and identifying additional ways of bringing our communities closer together," said #BlindianProject founder, Jonah Batambuze.
South Asians for Black Lives was started by a collective of six non-Black South Asian women in California in 2019. Its goal was to raise awareness and mobilize the South Asian community to dismantle anti-Blackness. The online community grew to circa 50k people during 2020 as people sought out educational materials and ways to support Black lives.
"After deep reflection, we realized that while social media is a great platform to share knowledge, the capacity it took to maintain the community wasn't sustainable. That being said, we genuinely value the online community we built and see the purpose and need for this community to continue. Therefore, we're handing the reins to our longtime partner, the #BlindianProject, who will indefinitely take over our Instagram and Twitter communities," said South Asians for Black Lives member, Haleema Bharoocha.
